“I have never felt so powerless in my life,” from the article, for me this was July 2, 2003. I came into work after a week of working from 10am to 6am four consecutive days, and sleeping in my car 3 straight nights. I was told “I did not fit the corporate culture and was no longer needed”. I was 23 and it crushed me. I could not grasp how I could go from working a near 100 hour work week to no longer “fitting corporate culture”. I decided at that point I would be the one who controls my career, no one else. I am sure it hits home with millions of people that worked hard everyday and were told they were no longer needed due to no fault of their own.
I am not sure entrepreneurs as whole are better equipped than others to handle a crisis. What I do agree with: we are self directed, and forced to survive by being resourceful, that the road is definitely rocky and never a straight path. That is the agreement we all make when striking out on own our, after time it just becomes a way of life. It’s a mantra I use in so many aspects of life, “time to get comfortable being uncomfortable”. Maybe this is why this article assumes an entrepreneur is better prepared or its simply selling to its base reader.
